With the new year right around the corner, many of us will find ourselves filling our journals with good intentions for 2017. And while many of those will be repeated resolutions from years past, mostly personal, it is important to also set a few goals for your professional life. It is important to set yourself up for success by following a few basic rules when setting any intentions, to avoid giving up after just a few short weeks.
Be sure to set small, attainable goals that you can easily track, and be specific! For instance, rather than say that you want to get promoted, perhaps add a few specific goals that are required for the next career level you seek. If you are stuck with where to even start with your professional resolutions for 2017, we have created a short list to get you started.
- Find a mentor at work (or become one if you are at a more senior level).
- Join two professional networks to expand your circle.
- Bring healthy snacks to work every day.
- Smile more (trust us, it will rub off on your patients and colleagues!).
- Take two continuing education courses.
- Replace caffeine with a herbal tea or flavored water.
- Take at least two 10 minute breaks per shift.
- Try yoga and/or meditation for stress management.
- Drink more water.
- Return focus to patient care, taking the necessary time with patients to properly care for them.
